Quiet little Belmont card today, just three we’re keen on out of the eight. Soft 5 with showers about, so the ground’s giving but not a bog. God’s Grin in the 6 is where we’ve landed for the best bet, drawn 2 and sitting off a no-leader pace at $4.20. The other two are longer shots at country prices, so pick your spots.

10. White Hot $6.00

Barrier 6 · Off Midfield · Soft pace

The favourite at $3.10 from gate 12 is doing it the hard way here. #10 White Hot draws better in gate 6, has been knocking on the door with a third and a fourth his last two, and Lucy Fiore goes on. He should land closer and get his chance before Partay can wind up from out wide. At $6, I’d rather take the horse with the gate than the one having to overcome it.

7. Pariah’s Thanks $8.00

Barrier 2 · Midfield · Soft pace

$8 for #7 Pariah’s Thanks is the price I want. He comes back off a spell with a win in his last three starts, draws gate 2, and Holly Nottle sticks. The favourite at $2.80 has nothing recent to back her up. Take Pariah’s Thanks.

8. God’s Grin $4.20

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · No leader

I’m on #8 God’s Grin at $4.20. Back from a spell with a third, and the prep before he won two and placed in the rest. No genuine leader is the query, but #7 Masterly has the same problem from gate 6, while God’s Grin gets the rail. On him.
