Few we like at Ballina today, and most of them go against what the market’s pushing. Heavy 9 underfoot, and a few of those short favourites haven’t proven they go on wet ground. Deep Stealth in the 4 is our best of three, and the prices on offer feel fair for a track playing this tough.

#6 Deep Stealth keeps finding the line without quite breaking through, was second last time out with placings around it. Gate 2, Jett Newman aboard, and he settles just off the speed on a heavy 9, where you want to be on testing ground. The favourite ran unplaced last time and has to hold up from gate 4 with genuine speed engaged. $3.10 about a horse knocking on the door beats $2.80 about one just beaten. Take him.

$1.75 about Prestige Ice is too short when the favourite sits off the speed and still has to come from gate 7. #5 Triple Time has the rail draw, Karl Zechner aboard, and gets ear muffs on first time. Same map problem as the fav, much better gate, much better price at $4.60. I’m on him.

#4 Rhetoric is the one for me at $3.70. Won last start, second the run before, third before that. Jai Williams sticks, gate 3 on a heavy 9. The fav’s $2.10 has to lead from gate 6 in genuine speed, plenty of work. Stick with the horse trending up.
