Racing Tips Balaklava from KRUZEY

Balaklava Horse Racing Tips Wed 15/7/26

Fine day but a Heavy 8 underfoot at Balaklava, so where’s the value on a track that’s still testing? We went through all seven and there’s a few we’re keen on, though nothing we’d call a standout. Most of our tips sit around the $4 to $6.50 mark, so it’s a card for picking your spots rather than backing in. The two big fields late, 14 runners and 12 runners, are where it gets tricky, and that’s where the map matters most.

Race 1
1:15pm · 2212m · Mdn Plate · 8 runners

7. Celeman Zor $4.60

Barrier 6 · Midfield · Soft pace

The gear change is the hook here. #7 Celeman Zor gets the nose roll on for the first time, the tongue tie comes off, and Jason Holder rides for Grant Young. The favourite, #8 Swan Dance, is $1.50 and has placed four times without winning one; over 2212m on a Heavy 8, that’s short enough to take on. At $4.60 from gate 6, Celeman Zor is the each-way I want against her.

Race 2
1:50pm · 1400m · Mdn Plate · 10 runners

7. Mandarin $5.50

Barrier 6 · Off Pace · Soft pace

Where’s the value in race 2? #7 Mandarin at $5.50. Brooke King settles him back off the fence from gate 6, the winkers are on to sharpen him up, and he’s been placing without breaking through. The favourite has only had two runs, so $3.20 for #5 Healthandhappiness is short enough for me. I like Mandarin at the bigger quote.

Race 3
2:25pm · 1200m · Mdn Plate · 10 runners

8. Illustrates $5.00

Barrier 5 · Midfield · Soft pace

Extra Chill at $2 leaves me cold. He still hasn’t won one, and that’s short enough in the wet. #8 Illustrates gets a swag of first-time gear, tongue tie on and winkers off, with Jemma Gutte up from gate 5. Happy to take $5 and beat the short one.

Race 4
3:00pm · 1050m · Hcp (C1) · 10 runners

2. Little One $6.50

Barrier 5 · Midfield · Soft pace

I’m on #2 Little One at $6.50. Won two back before a fourth last start, the blinkers and visors go on, and he can come home over the top when the leaders ease the tempo. The $2 favourite, #1 Trade Game, has to do all the work out front. Happy to take the overs.

Race 5
3:35pm · 1200m · (Bm56) Hcp · 9 runners

1. Costless $6.50

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · No leader

No genuine leader here, so late legs decide it. The $2.80 favourite, #3 Impending Diamond, settles just as deep, so I’d rather have the $6.50 on #1 Costless for the same run from gate 2. Won two starts back before a fourth last time, and he comes home strong once the tempo lets him. Overs over the short one every day.

Race 6
4:10pm · 2212m · Hcp (56) · 14 runners

2. Whatsanamegeorge $3.80

Barrier 6 · Off Pace · No leader

Todd Pannell sticks with #2 Whatsanamegeorge and the blinkers go on. He found the line to run second last start, draws gate 6 while the fav sits out in 10, and can pick them off late once this one grinds. $3.80, I’m on.

Race 7
4:45pm · 1400m · Hcp (56) · 12 runners

1. Je City $3.70

Barrier 8 · Midfield · Soft pace

#1 Je City at $3.70 is where I’m at. The speed looks soft here, but he settles midfield and knows how to run over the top of them late once the leaders idle. He was second last start, Jemma Gutte stays on for Kate Halliday, and gate 8 lets him slide across into the right spot. He’s ready, and he’s the one for me.
