Small card at Alice Springs, five races, and we’ve only landed on two of them. Good track, fine overhead, so no excuses about the going here. That means it comes back to price, and the two we like are both around the same money. Revolution Rising is $3.20 in the 3 off a good gate, and The Big Freeze is $3.60 in the 4 with nobody obvious to lead. Neither is a gift at those odds, but they’re the two worth a look on the card, and the Cummins Cup can look after itself.

Blinkers on and drawn 3 in a seven-horse field, that’s the tidy spot I want. #2 Revolution Rising ran second last start and keeps hitting the line, so a soft tempo doesn’t scare me when he finishes as well as he does. #3 Bonny Impact gets the lead at $3.10, but I’d rather have the horse coming at her late. $3.20, easy.

The favourite is the one I’m against here. #4 Kieffer is $2.50 and hasn’t hit the placings in eight runs now, and he settles further back than my pick does anyway. #2 The Big Freeze ran second last start off a couple of wins earlier in the prep, and Billy Cray only has five others to beat. At $3.60, have him.
