Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood Prediction

Sudden death at the MCG, and the loser is finished for the year. The Bulldogs finished eighth and get the home designation, but Collingwood are the market’s pick. I’m on the Dogs anyway.

Western Bulldogs Host This and Start Outsiders. I’m Taking Them Anyway.

The Bulldogs finished eighth and Collingwood ninth, and there is almost nothing in it. Two premiership points across a whole season is one result either way. It is no reason to back either side, and it is not my reason for being on the Dogs.

My reason is where the ball starts. The Bulldogs win first use at the stoppages and at the centre bounces, and over a full season that gap is a real one, not a rounding error. Against a side that wants to move it by hand, getting the ball out of the contest first is what breaks the pattern. That is the case. I’m not going to say it to you another six times.

They also do far more of the spoiling and smothering that never makes a highlight, and in a final that gets scratched out and squeezed, that work is worth more than it is in a normal round.

The case against is real. Collingwood’s percentage is the better of the two, 102.4 to 95.4, despite finishing a place lower. They tackle harder than the Bulldogs as well. And the MCG is Collingwood’s regular deck, so the home designation here is a piece of paper more than an advantage.

That percentage is the strongest thing anyone can hold against my tip, and I’m not going to write it down and then walk past it. What I’d say is that it was built in games where a loss costs you four points, not your season. This is a different night. Contested, scrappy, both sides going into their shell after every miss.

On form I’ll be straight with you. The Bulldogs beat Melbourne last week and Collingwood were beaten by 63 by a top four side. That is one game each and I’m not dressing either up as a trend, not after telling you two points on the ladder means nothing. The one that carries weight is the meeting between these two this season, and the Bulldogs won it by four.

Then the under, and here I’m not going to oversell you. I have this at 86 to 81 and the market is at 170.5. My own scoreline gets under that by less than a goal, which is nothing. One late one and it’s gone. I want the under because of how I think this gets played, and that read is why it is the leg I want most.

Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood Tip

I’m tipping the Western Bulldogs by 5, 86 to 81. One kick in it, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood Key Stats

CLEARANCES
WBD38

COL34

First use at the stoppages, per game across the full season. That gap is why I’m on the Bulldogs, because it decides where the ball spends the night.
ONE PERCENTERS
WBD50

COL42

The spoiling and smothering nobody claps for, again per game across the season. Finals get won by the side that keeps scratching the ball out of danger.
TACKLES
WBD57

COL64

Collingwood put more heat on the ball carrier, per game over the year, and that pressure is the part of this that can undo the Bulldogs.

Michael’s Verdict

At $2.00 I’ll take the Bulldogs head to head, and I’ll be straight with you, that leg is line ball. The under 170.5 at $1.89 is the leg carrying my multi, because a scratchy, contested night is how I think this gets played. If Collingwood get it moving by hand and the game opens up, both are gone. Prices are as at the time of writing, so check them before you get on.
