Melbourne vs Carlton Prediction
Carlton are favourite and I’m not going to argue with…

Collingwood are the form team of the competition right now, but form has a way of meeting its match. This is the one fixture that keeps getting away from them, and I want to be with Geelong at the MCG tonight.

Two sides separated by almost nothing on the ladder, one riding a hot streak, the other the side I trust more in a genuine contest. I read Geelong as the stronger side tonight, and I am with them.
Geelong win the ruck, they win the ball on the inside, and they get it forward more often than almost anyone. That has been the shape of this matchup for a while now. It tilts further their way tonight with Collingwood a rebounding defender light after Brayden Maynard was ruled out, because the footy is going to keep coming back the other way.
Collingwood have won six on the trot and they are at home in front of a big MCG crowd, so this is no gimme, and that is the case against me. But every one of those wins came against somebody other than Geelong, and the side that keeps finding a way past them is the one lining up tonight. Nothing in the way this fixture keeps playing out tells me that flips here.
Geelong controlling the middle does not mean a shootout. It means they slow the game down and hold the ball, and a grind at the MCG stays lower scoring. My nine point Cats win sits under the 175.5, not over it.
Geelong by nine at the MCG, with an engine room that has too much for Collingwood through the middle.
Give me Geelong. Collingwood’s streak is the one thing that gives me pause, but a run of wins against everyone else has not solved this particular opponent. I do not think tonight is where that turns.
Lawson Humphries 20 or more disposals, $1.47. He has cracked 20 three times in his last six and Geelong should own the middle here, so there is plenty of ball coming his way at $1.47.
Steele Sidebottom 20 or more disposals, $2.01. Twenty three touches last start says the legs are still there, and even with Geelong on top through the corridor he is a good thing to find 20 again at $2.01.
Patrick Lipinski to kick a goal, $2.15. One last time out and on the scoreboard in four of his last seven, so he is live to hit it again and $2.15 is a fair price.
Oliver Henry two or more goals, $1.76. Four goals last start is the story, and with the Cats winning the footy he will get his looks in front, so two or more at $1.76 is the play.
Shannon Neale two or more goals, $1.47. Five goals last time out and he is trending up, and if Geelong control it the way I expect he only needs a couple, which at $1.47 is where I want to be.

| Our Tip | Multi: Geelong Cats -4.5, Under 175.5 points & Shannon Neale 2+ Goals @ $5.31 |
| Predicted Score | Collingwood Magpies 82 – Geelong Cats 91 |
I am tipping Geelong by around nine points. They own the ruck and the contested ball, they have won the last three meetings, and that combination is hard to argue with tonight.
My headline multi at $5.31 leaves the straight win out and rolls the line and total in with a player prop, Shannon Neale 2+ Goals. On its own, Geelong Cats -4.5 at $1.91 is the anchor.
The match is at the MCG on Thursday night, with the two clubs sitting just one spot apart on the ladder.
