Round 23 is where the first Wildcard Round in AFL history starts to take shape, with two games left and the top six cliff still unsettled. Fremantle sit eight points clear on top, but behind them Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne are locked together on 56 points and separated only by percentage, and one slip drops any of them out of the week off and into a sudden death wildcard game. Geelong are seventh and still live for a top six finish, which makes their trip to Marvel Stadium worth more than the ladder suggests. The pick of the round is the Western Bulldogs against Carlton, ninth hosting tenth, with a place in the 7 to 10 playoff riding on it. Add Fremantle hosting Adelaide on Friday night and Hawthorn meeting Collingwood at the MCG and there is plenty still to sort out.
