Under the 2026 system the sides that finished fifth and sixth host the two wildcard round winners, with sixth drawing the higher ranked winner and fifth the lower. Win and you move into a semi final. Lose and your season ends. That is a change worth understanding: fifth and sixth no longer meet eighth and seventh, they meet whoever survived the wildcard weekend, which can mean a side that finished as low as tenth and is playing with nothing to lose.
